A Personal Statement From The Headteacher

I am pleased to introduce the information here to you.

I am extremely proud to be Headteacher of The Hayling College and I believe that staff, parents, children and the community want to be proud of their college too.

Pride comes from being successful and in an age when it is all too easy to see standards fall, the governors and staff here are committed to celebrating the success of all our boys and girls. We encourage academic excellence through serious study in class and at home. We also expect and reward the right sort of behaviour, treating each other and each other’s property with care and consideration, being polite and making positive contributions through sport, the arts and generosity of spirit.

I would be so proud if your son or daughter allowed us the privilege of helping him or her along that same journey towards that same end.

Mr M Bullough, B.Ed.(Hons), M.Sc.

International Leadership Project trip to Melbourne

Mr Bullough is a trained facilitator responsible for  a study visit to Australia on behalf of the National College for Leadership of Schools and Childrens Services; this is one part of an 18 month programme run by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust to improve leadership in BSF (Building Schools for the Future) activities . Coincidentally two Hayling College staff applied for this particular national programme as did two federation partner colleagues from Park Community.
Melbourne has been chosen as the host area because it has recently been heavily  involved in Australia’s strategy to build their way out of recession by stimulating the construction industry. This saw  significant funding given to schools and indeed entirely rebuilding many; they boldly took the  opportunity to rethink the way children learn for a modern world and match the building designs to those new ways  of teaching. Mr Denney and Mrs Hedley, two participants on the programme, are therefore being taken to new and refurbished schools to find out what lessons can be learned when refurbishment and new buildings at schools are taken through the design and construction and final furnishing stages. The group will continue their research on return to the UK and will complete their study report at the close of the programme in 2011.
